When you’re watching sports television you will often hear commentators talking about athletes abusing anabolic steroids.
Anabolic steroids are man made drugs that act like testosterone in the body and when used, create more muscle in the body.
Why do people use them? Having a more muscular, fit body could be useful for a variety of reasons.
One of the biggest reasons people will use steroids is so that they will be stronger when they play sports. For example, bodybuilders using steroids have a better chance of lifting more and showing off a more toned body.
Football players are also another group of athletes that tend to use steroids. They believe that the anabolic steroids will help the run faster and throw the ball better, but over time the steroids will only deteriorate their body faster.
Luckily, many major sport committees, including the International Olympic Committee, drug tests athletes before they compete. This has significantly reduced the number of athletes on anabolic steroids because if they fail to pass the test, they will not be able to compete in their sport.
And while you might think that bodybuilders and other athletes concerned about building muscle would be the only people to use anabolic steroids, you’re wrong. People that are born with small lungs have been known to use steroids to make them bigger and stronger. Unfortunately, most people that have anabolic steroids are using them illegally.
Users of anabolic steroids that are not using them for medicinal purposes should remember that using them comes at a price. Not only do they cost a lot of money to buy, they also produce negative effects on your body. While they will increase your muscle mass, many people using anabolic steroids will notice an increase in acne and body hair. They will also have an increased risk of getting a heart attack. Many people using steroids have also been know to have anger management problems.
Now that you know why people use anabolic steroids, hopefully you will refrain from getting started with this drug. Even though you will experience large muscle gains in a short amount of time, it is not worth it because of all the negative side effects that it will cost you. Although you won’t be a bodybuilder, it is more important that your overall health is good rather than having more muscles. Over time you will begin to appreciate that you didn’t take steroids.
